As Director of Public Affairs for the National Insurance Crime Bureau, Ms. Kaplan manages East Coast media relations for this century-old organization whose sole mission is to investigate and route out the nation's most insidious and egregious fraud cases on behalf of the U.S. insurance industry. A highly experienced media spokesperson with an extensive network of top-tier journalists, Ms. Kaplan formerly managed media relations for the American Bankers Association where she navigated multiple issue land mines during the height of the U.S. banking crisis. She is known for building and maintaining solid working relationships with journalists and is frequently quoted. As a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, Ms. Kaplan served as a communications strategist for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, managing media relations for Cyber Storm II, a biennial cyber security exercise involving numerous foreign countries, multiple federal agencies, several U.S. states and Fortune 500 companies. For 20 years, Ms. Kaplan was a TV news anchorwoman and reporter at television stations across the U.S. Her reports appeared on major network news outlets including CNN (Wolf Blitzer), CNBC (Geraldo Rivera), and MSNBC. Her work earned an Emmy, numerous Emmy nominations, and several awards from the Associated Press, the Public Relations Society of America, American Women in Radio and Television, and the Federal Executive Board. She reported extensively on the FBI discovery of the first known domestic Al-Quaida terrorist cell. Ms. Kaplan earned a master's degree in Communication: Journalism and Public Affairs from American University in 1983 where she authored her thesis, "U.S. Vulnerability to Domestic Terrorism," warning of the nation's lack of preparedness against domestic terrorist attacks - 18 years before September 11th.
